I wish to acknowledge the use of illustrative quotations from the following accounts written by PoW's :

Personal Account of Executions at Singapore - Arthur Lane
Railway of Death - John Coast
Freeing the Demons - Alfred Edward Nellis
The Will to Live - Len Baines
Healing in Hell - Ken Adams

Throughout their time as PoW's many men kept diaries and drew sketches of their experiences, risking certain death if they were discovered. It is from these accounts and from memoirs recorded from survivors of the railway and prison camps that the true extent of the atrocities and their suffering has been revealed.
